<--- my new nephew Jackson Charles Conners!!

Hello there Curious!

Long-time no speak, things have indeed been busy busy busy! First things first, the first half of the CD release shows have been simply incredible; thank you for coming out and for all your amazing feedback on the new disc. We have many more shows around the corner including Peterborough (Gordon Best) tonight, Wakefield (Black Sheep) tomorrow July 14, Kitchener-Waterloo (Boathouse) July 20th, Toronto (Drake Hotel) July 21st, as well as some fun shows like a solo show with my friends the Good Lovelies at the Gladstone on July 26th and a bunch of festivals in August. After all of that, we'll head out and tour colleges in September, then I'll hit the East Coast (including Newfoundland!), then the rest of Canada and then the US!! I think I'm basically going to be on tour for about 2 years...so get your spare beds fluffed and de-loused!

Just a quick note about the Drake Hotel show on Saturday July 21st, it is FULL BAND and with Jason Bajada (www.myspace.com/jasonbajada) and JF Robitaille (www.mypsace.com/jfrobitaille) , 2 AMAZING singer-songwriters from Montreal and New York. I'll be the 3rd of 3 and the schedule will be tight. First act will be on at 9 and we'll be on no later than 11 (for real!). I don't know the exact price but it will be cheaper than usual (under $10 for sure). Hopefully you can come check it out.

Also wanted to mention that tickets for the Good Lovelies show on the 26th (I'm doing a solo opening set) are onsale now in advance at Soundscapes (572 College St).

And now for the point-form section:

- The 'Forgiveness' video is ALMOST done and will be released  very shortly...

- My track 'Posters' has been selected as the featured song at garageband.com for July 17th, 2007!

- The new record 'More Nights' is available for purchase WORLDWIDE through  www.cdbaby.com/peterkatz3, indiepool.com, Puretracks as well as HERE It will be up on itunes in a couple of weeks

- Lethbridge loves PK and the Curious! We're #2 for Folk/Roots  and #5 for Rock/Pop on the Lethbridge charts! Thank you!

- The new website is ALMOST done. Thank you for your patience and hate-mail telling me to get it up already.

Alright, sorry to put you through the point-form there for a moment, I'm a little long-winded otherwise...

I believe that's it. I'll be announcing the national tour dates in a couple of weeks, can't wait to hit the road! Take care, lots of love, Peter

Hello there friends!

I’m writing to you from the studio, we’re busy putting the final touches on the record before it goes to mastering on Tuesday.  I can’t quite believe it’s ALMOST done!!!  I am so ridiculously excited for you all to hear it!!

On that note, pre-sales have now begun (thanks to all of you that have already purchased copies!).  We’re kind of out of money and need to raise enough funds through pre-sales to print the darn thing so if you’re going to buy the record anyway, why not do it in advance!  As a little incentive, you’ll get it a week before it goes on-sale, you’ll get some fun stickers and buttons and I’ll write my name on it if you’d like.   Pre-sale copies are $20 and include all shipping and handling.  Feel free to buy as many copies as you’d like, nothing like getting your holiday shopping done in June!

If you would like to purchase a copy/copies, PLEASE CLICK HERE.  You can use all credit cards, e-checks, paypal etc. all through the linked paypal site, 100% securely.

Also, as many of you may or may not know, I just got back from 2 weeks in France performing as part of the ceremonies at Vimy Ridge.  It was probably the best experience of my life and I wrote a photo-blog about it HERE so please feel free to check it out.

There you have it, a short note (for once in my life…).  I’ll have show announcements and the like very soon, plus all kinds of exciting album-related stuff very very soon!

Thanks for reading, hope you’re all doing well, lots of love, PEter

First things first, the band and I will be headlining a show tomorrow night (Sat the 17th) at the ESC in Mississauga. Doors are at 9 pm with the incredible Sean Pinchin starting off the night (www.myspace.com/seanpinchin). More show details HERE Come on down all you Mississaugians (??)

Second things second, I will be doing a little tour at the end of March in Ontario and Quebec to give you all a taste of what’s in store for the new record. Included in the tour will be a HUGE show at Revival (EARLY SHOW) in Toronto on FRIDAY MARCH 30th where we’ll have the full band with special guests and we’ll also be shooting a live DVD! Tickets will be onsale soon for that show, more details on that in about a week.
The following night we’ll be playing a super exciting show at the Gig Theatre in Kitchener (Sat March 31st). The venue is an absolutely gorgeous 600-seat theatre and we’re so excited to be playing there, supporting the wonderful Rob Szabo Band in his hometown!! Tickets go onsale for that show tomorrow morning (Saturday) at 10 am. $12 adv. $15 door at ticketweb.ca (search 'Rob Szabo') or at Encore Records and Sherwood music in KW.

Also as part of the tour, Rob and I will be doing 2 back to back solo shows at the Yellow Door in Montreal (Friday March 23 and Sat March 24), a full-band show at The Pepper Jack Café on Sunday March 25th and a full band show at Fanshawe College in London on Wed March 28th.

All of this brings me to my final point:
THIS TOUR WILL ALSO MARK THE END OF MY EP ‘SPLIT’ BEING ONSALE!!! AFTER MARCH 31st, ‘Split’ will be officially out of print, so if you’d like a copy, be sure to order it soon or pick it up at one of the shows. You can order it online through peterkatz.com, you can order it at any store in Canada, or you can get it at all shows.

After March 31st ….pre-sales will begin for ‘More Nights’---- my official debut!! To be released on June 7th, 2007!!

Thanks for making it to the bottom. There are so many exciting things that I haven’t told you about yet… but all in good time…

Just a quick little update to say hello and let you know that despite relative 'quietness' on the online front, I am BUSIER than ever!  We are ALMOST done tracking all the parts for the record, just strings and a few miscellaneous bits and we'll have it all in the can.  Then we'll move on to mixing, mastering, design, etc. etc.    I'll be announcing the official Canadian release date shortly, but I would put your money on June 7th, 2007!!    I'll be leaking some previews long before then though so please check back regularly.   Hope you're all doing well, it's back to the studio for me!  Take care, PEter

Hello Mile-Runners!

I am back from my 2nd national tour and am happy to report that I am alive and well (though extremely exhausted…)

I have written a detailed photo-blog and posted it for your perusal HERE

Included in the blog is a NEW SONG that I wrote and recorded while on tour called ‘That Was Then’  You can download it for free there (the lyrics are posted at the bottom of the page)

Without getting into too much detail about my trip (as it’s all in the blog) I’ll just say that I had an absolutely incredible time.  I’d also like to say THANK YOU to everyone who made it possible; I am completely indebted to your remarkable kindness and support, it is overwhelming and inspiring.

You’ll notice a bit of a lull in the ‘shows’ section of the site as now that I’m back my complete focus will be finishing the new record.  Things are going to take a little longer than anticipated as I was very fortunate to receive a FACTOR grant worth a significant amount of money which means we can do all the bells and whistles we wanted to do.  I can’t wait for you all to hear this record; I promise that all this time will have been worth it!

I’d just like to say one other thing that has really become a big part of my consciousness in recent times.  I really encourage everyone to watch the movie ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ with Al Gore.  I truly believe that it’s one of the most important documents of our time and cannot be ignored without tremendous consequences.  After watching this movie, I felt afraid, but I also felt extremely empowered to do something about it.  There are very simple, practical things that you can start doing right now to battle global warming.  A suggestion:  invest in Green energy on behalf of a family member as a great Christmas/Hannukah present!

Please check out some of these links:  www.climatecrisis.net   www.nativeenergy.com

 www.bullfrogpower.com

That’s it for me; I’m happy to say that I’m going to disappear until the New Year.

Happy Holidays to everyone; thank you so much to each and every one of you for your ears, your big hearts, your open-mindedness, your warmth, your thoughtful communications and your incredible support.  This has been an amazing year for me and the entire team; we owe it all to you and your willingness to engage.

2007 is going to be a BIG one, I can feel it!

Lots and lots of love, PEter

Hello Mile-Runners!

There’s another update coming soon with the official details of the upcoming Canadian tour, but in the meantime there are a bunch  of really exciting dates to tell you about.

Just before I get to that though, let me first say an enormous  THANK YOU to everyone who came out to all the shows in September.  Biggest highlights were definitely the two full-houses at the Rivoli with the 8-piece band! Hopefully someday we can take that act on the road! I also want to report that the new album (now officially titled ‘More Nights’) is moving along extremely well.  We’re doing the last of the vocals over the next week or so, and then from there we move on to strings, horns and whatever other little touches we want to add. It’s still going to be a little while (as things will grind to a halt while I’m on tour) but it’s definitely sounding like the album I’ve always dreamed of making, can’t wait for you all to hear it!!

On to the shows (specific details in the shows section):

On Wed. Oct 18th I will be doing a poetry reading (!!) at the Now Lounge in Toronto, as a guest of Montreal performance poet extraordinaire Luna Allison (www.lunallison.com)   I’ll be performing a few solo acoustic tunes as well. Also on the bill is Zoe Whittall.

On Fri. Oct 20th, we will be doing our first full-band show at the SoundLounge (ESC) in Mississauga. I love this room and can’t wait to bring the band out!

On Sat. Oct 21st, I am VERY excited to report that the band will be opening for the incredible Rob Szabo (and band) at the gorgeous Starlight in Waterloo. We could not be more excited  about this show, at this point I’m sure everyone knows how much we love playing with Rob, and the Starlight is such a great venue = recipe for GREAT night! Tickets for this show are onsale now through maplemusic.

On Sun. Oct 22nd, I will be doing a solo afternoon set at the legendary Black Sheep Inn in Wakefield, QC (just outside Ottawa). The show is at 4:00 pm, solo acoustic and also features the arresting Andrea Revel (www.andrearevel.com)  who has been receiving a LOT of attention as of late. An intimate solo show at one of the best venues in the country, on a Sunday afternoon, in the most beautiful little town in Quebec, definitely worth the trip!

On Tues. Oct 24th, I will be performing at Sheridan College in Mississauga. There is an open mic preceding my set and then I’ll be the featured guest. All you Sheridan-ites, come on down (and bring your guitars!)

And Finally, on Thurs. Oct 26th, the Full band will be playing in Montreal at the gorgeous La Sala Rosa with Cabaret singer par excellence Amanda Mabro (with band) www.amandamabro.com and Jason Bajada www.jasonbajada.com . Both of these Montrealers have been making huge waves both in Montreal and across the country, this show will be our biggest Montreal date yet! Tickets for this show are onsale in advance for only $8 through ticketweb

That’s all for now, check the shows section for specific addresses and times; tour update coming soon with a whack of shows with Rob Szabo across the country, plus an East-Coast tour with the Pocket Co.! Thanks as always for your incredible support (I really appreciate all your emails!), can’t wait to play for you all very very soon!!

Take care, lots of love, PEter

Hey Everyone!

It was just brought to my attention that despite the discounts offered for advance ticket sales, it actually comes out to 50 cents more than the door price with the service  charges…. Well, that seems to defeat my original intentions, SO, I’m offering a $2 refund at the door to every person who purchases their tickets in advance. That means you’re  guaranteed to get in, and you have a little extra cash to buy a pack of gum, or a soda, or tip the bartender well and get great service all night! Thanks to everyone who have already purchased tickets!

Had a huge rehearsal with all the special guests last night, we barely fit into the room! (and it sure didn’t smell very good 3 hours later --- 8 people, humidity, playing hard, small room with no circulation…mmmm)

Get your tickets now by following this link or by going to www.ticketweb.ca . You can also phone your order in at 1.888.222.6608

The tour dates for the rest of Canada are almost all booked, stay tuned for tour  announcement!

n.b. I also want to say a special thanks to everyone for your overwhelming responses to my recent email about the events in Montreal at Dawson College. I received many emails, some of which agreed with my thoughts, others that disagreed, all of which were sent with a huge amount of honesty, integrity, thoughtfulness and the willingness to communicate! THANK YOU!!!

See you soon!!

Take care, Peter

I was driving on Adelaide Street today when I turned my radio to CBC and heard that  there was some kind of killing spree going on at a school in Montreal. The city name,   being my hometown caught my attention, but as the details came in, I realized that it was

at the school my brother Andrew taught at, and that just last night I had been talking to my father who had said that Andrew was now working there full-time. As those two pieces of information collided, I realized that my brother was more than likely at the school, and that there was a good chance that he was near the shooting, if not in the heart of it. I wanted to call him so badly, but I was frozen, I couldn’t stop listening for the details “What was happening?” “Was anybody killed?” “What was really going on?!”

When I had pieced together a rough idea of the situation from the scattered reports, I called my brother’s cell-phone. My mind was ablaze, I was worried that his phone might ring and draw the shooter’s attention to him or something insane to that effect, I was terrified, but I selfishly needed to know that he was o.k. My heart fell from my throat as he picked up the phone. ‘Are you o.k.?’ I asked, and he said “Yes, I was on my way there, I was 10 minutes away. I’m just at a restaurant right now, having a bowl of soup, just trying to get some comfort, take a few deep breaths”. I could hear the shock in his voice.

As I processed that my brother was safe, I fell apart. My heart fell deep into my belly and I gasped into tears, unable to contain myself. He could have been there, he would have been there, his friends are there, his students are there, his students have been shot. This has happened.

I sat in my car, on the side of the road for a long time, the same images running through my mind of my brother being threatened by the shooter, lying on the ground, running for his life. My brother: who has been with me my entire life, my best friend, my life-long companion; one of the few precious people who would always be there for me, always know me no matter what. I couldn’t handle the thoughts; I couldn’t handle the moment.

I cancelled the meeting that I was on my way to, and when I felt like it was mentally safe, I drove home, knowing that as soon as I walked in the door, I would once again collapse. And I did.

It is now several hours later, and I am finally calming down. I’ve spoken to my loved ones, shared many remarkable conversations. All are safe and I am breathing somewhat normally again. My thoughts are with all the people who were not so lucky today, and all the people that had to witness this. I am also thinking of the shooter, wishing him peace as I know he did not make it out alive.

There is no one in this world that should be left behind. There is no evil, I can’t believe that. There are people who are mentally ill, and they need to be treated, but there cannot be evil. There is only corruption, anger, emotions left unattended. There is only hatred due to ignorance and fear, protectionism, isolation. But there is no natural occurring

evil, that’s not possible. If I don’t believe that, then I am lost. If I can’t believe that we are naturally good, then I can’t believe in anything.

I don’t have a song to offer up, it’s too close at this point. But if this event is the result of an individual who felt marginalized, who somehow held so much anger that he felt

compelled to do something like this, who didn’t have the opportunity to communicate his emotions until the last moment, well then I want to react with as much communication as possible. I want to react with as much emotion, as much humanity, as much coming-together and openness as possible. I’m sure many of you have been affected by this event and I invite you to share your story of today with me, or with anyone around you. What are you feeling right now? How does an event like this make you feel? If you haven’t had a chance to express yourself about it yet, then I’m all ears. There’s no pressure of course, but if you feel so inclined, I’m here to listen. I feel like the most common way to experience an event like this is to just watch the news. I understand that need, but I want to take it further. I want to infuse what’s left of this day with humanity, with all that’s overwhelmingly good and incredible about people, with our ability to feel something deep in our gut and be affected by it. I want to support communication and the free-flow of dialogue and emotions. I want to support forgiveness, not the propagation of hate, no matter how trying the circumstances.

Forgive me for my constant public display of emotion. I don’t have any answers, and I do not intend to preach; I just want to feel connected to this world around me that I so often can’t understand, and this is all that I can think of doing.

Hoping that you’re all well, lots of love, PEter

Hello Mile-Runners!

It has been a while since my last update, but the quiet is only a testament to the storm of busy-ness that's been going on (and is about to happen!)

Before I dive in, let me first say an enormous THANK YOU to  everyone who listened to ‘Forgiveness’ and passed it along to  friends. The song has received thousands of plays so far,  without any release, proper recording, funding, radio attention  or anything. That is a pretty amazing thing and I have all of you to thank for spreading the message. I also need to thank everyone who has been sending me their stories and artwork for  my writing project. I have a pile of great material for when I’m  on tour, keep it coming! (and remember, it can be about  anything, just tell me what it’s like to be you, your day to  day, your exceptional, your mundane, whatever).

Alright, MUCH to report!

RECORDING: The album is rolling along nicely. I’d say we’re somewhere in the 40-50% done range, but we’re being extremely picky and somewhat obsessive (don’t look at me…) so it’s going to take a while. Let me tell you though, I am SOOOO excited about how things are sounding. I’m in the process of editing video from the recording process which I’ll be posting in segments over the next little while to show you what we’ve been up to. This record will be considered the official 'debut', which means that the first 2 records will go out of print. There are limited copies (about 20) of 'The One Minute Mile Man' available through cdbaby.com and a few hundred copies of Split left that I'll be selling on the upcoming tour. Once those are out, that's it, so if you'd like a copy make sure you get one soon! The new release
is planned for Winter 2007!

TOURING: I’m tired of this ‘recording hiatus’, I’m DYING to be playing shows again! Well, there are a ton of shows around the corner. I’ll be doing a whack of colleges and universities for September, followed by a solo/trio tour of Ontario and then followed by a solo cross-Canada tour for end of October, November and December! Dates are up for September and some of October but there are way more still to be posted so keep checking in (as soon as I know, you’ll know!)

We are also doing a very exciting 2-night-stand at the Rivoli on Sept 22nd and 23rd! Both shows will be full band, with special guests each night as well as many different songs/arrangements from night to night. We’ll be previewing a lot of the new material from the upcoming album as well. This is definitely our biggest endeavor to date as far as shows are concerned so come on down and bring your friends! Tickets will go on-sale on Wednesday Sept 6th at 10 am through ticketweb.ca and peterkatz.com. For the first week of sales (Sept 6th to Sept 13th), we will be offering a special promotion of $9 per night or $16 for both nights! Following that window, tickets will be $10 per night or $18 for both and $12 at the door. I know that’s a little complicated, but basically if you buy your ticket early it will be cheaper and
you’ll be guaranteed a spot at the show.

And for all you Hamilton-ites (?) I have a residency at the Casbah every Tuesday in Sept (well, Sept 5th, 12th and 19th) at 10 pm. I’ll be trying to mix it up each week and previewing lots of new material. I look forward to seeing you regularly this month!

Thanks for making it all the way to the bottom. Hope you’re all having a great long-weekend, can’t wait to get out of the specifics of recording and into the rush of performing. See you soon!

Take care, PEter

Sunday, August 20th,  2006

Hello hello!

All the September shows have been updated in the shows section!  October, November and December National tour dates are currently being booked so please check back regularly!

The album is rolling along nicely. All the bed tracks are done (we did them live off the floor to 2-inch tape...ooooohhhh.....so warm and sweet.....!) and now I'm doing additional guitars and vocals.  Soon we'll move on to keys, strings, brass, choir, and everything else we can think of.  I'll have some preview videos for you very very soon.  In the meantime, thanks for checking in; I can't wait to leave the 'bubble' and get back out there playing for all of you!

On another note, I've composed a new score for choreographer Meagan O'Shea's piece 'When I See You Again' which will be performed at the Harbourfront Center (!!) THIS Saturday (august 26th) at 3 pm.  It's a FREE show so come on down!

That's all for now, hope you are all doing well; I wish I could get this album out to you now (but patience is a virtue ---and I have none of it!)

take care, PEter

Forgiveness

I heard an interview on CBC radio about 6 weeks ago with the father of a man who was decapitated by Zarcowi. What was most surprising about the interview was the man’s forgiveness of Zarcowi, and his desire to break the chain of hate. He did not seek/want revenge; he was not thankful for Zarcowi’s death but only further saddened by it. What was also surprising was the reaction from other Americans to his unwillingness to speak out angrily and support the war ---he was actually shot at and shown huge posters of his decapitated son by angry pro-war protesters. I was very affected by the interview and wrote about it in my journal at the time.

With the recent events in the Middle East very much in my thoughts, I woke up this morning with that man on my mind and sought out the interview online. I listened to it  again today and was once again affected so much that it resulted in a song. I’ve just done a very quick recording of it in my bedroom and I’ve decided to post it online, along with the lyrics and the CBC interview for you.

I’m not sure what my ‘job’ as a singer/songwriter is supposed to be sometimes, but it seems to me that it should be to process some of what’s going on in this world and turn it into music. That’s really why I am compelled to write. Normally, the process of actually getting the song out there takes a long time (as I’m living right now going through the process of recording another album). I decided that I didn’t want to wait to put this one out there.

I don’t understand, on an emotional, naïve level, WHY people have to kill each other. That’s never made sense to me and I hope it never does. I imagine many of you feel the same way. Here’s my offering/plea for a change, do with it whatever you’d like.

Hope you’re all safe and sound, much love PEter

Hello Mile-Runners!

I just got back from a trip hiking in the deep woods of Virginia. It was SO gorgeous there... Glad to be back though; it's definitely time to catch up with all of you!

Well..NXNE was a GREAT night, thanks to all of you who came out and ‘friendly-fied’ the room for us. Since then, all our attention has been focused on pre-production for the new album. We’ve got 14 songs as contenders but ideally I’d like the album to be 10 songs (all my favorite albums are 10 songs, feels like the right number… I’m a sucker for bonus tracks though… so maybe 10 +1)

All this to say, for the first time in a LONG time, the ‘shows’ page will seem a little sparse. BUT, in a very short time I will have a HUGE touring schedule to present to you. I’m going all across this beautiful country once again in the fall, hitting everywhere I played last time + everywhere I missed (East Coast here I come!). The ever growing team is plotting a massive tour schedule, including dates in the U.S. So, please stay tuned for that.

In the meantime, I have a little project for all of you…

I recently wrote a new song for my sister and her husband for their wedding and it got me thinking… The way that I wrote the song for them was I sent them each a letter asking them to tell me their ‘story’ (about how they met, fell in love, the circumstances and details of how it all ‘happened’) What I got back from them were 2 incredible letters that left me totally inspired, pouring out pages and pages of potential lyrics for their song. Many of you also know that my song ‘The Fence’ was written using the play ‘The Laramie Project’ and the events surrounding Matthew Sheppard’s death as inspiration. Similarly, with ‘The Fence’, I used a source outside of my immediate self as my starting point. I’ve also recently done a lot of writing for modern dance which is another great source of inspiration for me.
Point made: here’s where you come in…

I’m looking for YOUR stories, your paintings, your photos, your choreography, whatever you’ve got. Whatever it is that means something to you, something that you think could inspire me and (hopefully) result in a piece of music. There’s no rush or timeline to this, just something to put away in the back of your mind, and send along when it hits you. I can obviously make no promises that I’ll write about what you send me, but I can definitely promise that I’ll really appreciate you sending it and give it the time, respect and consideration that it deserves. I basically want to compile all the stories, paintings, images,
videos, etc. and have them with me on my tour in the fall so I can have lots of source material to work from on the road. You can send them to me anonymously if you’d like, makes NO difference to me. All I’m interested in is the content. Write about what it’s like to be you, what you’ve been thinking about,
what happened to you that knocked you over, that picked you up, whatever. Don’t think about it too much; don’t perfect it if you don’t feel like it. I’m not judging the work, just taking it in. I’d really love some visual art too, that’s always a great place to work from for me. Alright, I could go on for hours here but I think I’ve made my point. Please send whatever you’ve got along to peter@peterkatz.com . If you’d prefer snail mail, then please send anything to WordWide Management attn: Peter Katz, 507 Queen Street East, Toronto, ON, M5M 1V1

Thanking you in advance for your time and energy!
Time to dive back into the depths of pre-production!!!

Take care, PEter

Hello Mile-Runners!

Much to report, let’s get right to it!

NXNE is this week and our set is June 8th (Thursday) at midnight sharp at the Drake Hotel underground (1150 Queen St. W, downstairs). This is a REALLY big show for us so your smiling faces and singing voices would go a long way. You can either get a wristband for the weekend (something like $25 bucks for over 300 bands including Hawksley Workman, Amy Millan, Television, C'MON, David Celia, Valery Gore, Harmony Trowbridge and so many more!) You can also just get a pass for the individual night at the Drake for under $10 (not sure the exact price) which will get you 5 bands (including yours truly). Wristbands and such are available now at www.nxne.com hope to see you there!

For all of you in Montreal: I’m very proud to report that I have composed a 20-minute score for Andrea Spaziani’s new contemporary dance piece ‘The Stand’ as part of her show ‘From Under the Umbrella’ (a double-bill with dancer/choreographer Geordan Coupland). I have been locked up in my room tweaking knobs for many moons now and I’m really really excited about the end result. I was at rehearsal today adding the finishing touches and it’s looking/ sounding great! (it will be touring to a few locations in Canada so stay tuned for that if you don’t live in Montreal!) Show dates are: June 9, 8:45 pm/ June 10, 4:45 pm / June 12, 6:30 pm (2 for 1!) / June 14, 8:30 pm / June 16, 5:15 pm / June 17, 5:30 pm. The show is at the MAI, 3680 Rue Jeanne-Mance, tix are $9 and available through 849-FEST. Visit www.montrealfringe.ca and www.andreaspaziani.com for more details.

As an added bonus, I will be performing at the Montreal Fringe on their outdoor stage on Thursday June 15th at 2 pm sharp (Parc des Ameriques – corner Rachel and St-Laurent). I’ll be doing a 45-minute solo set so come on down if you’re up for a free outdoor show!

For all of you who don’t live in Toronto or Montreal, I have lots of new goodies posted for you here! First of all, I have posted 4 videos from the webcast I did back in April with Rob Szabo. Second of all, I’ve posted ‘Apples’ from our Revival show (with others to come soon). Third of all, there are pictures from the Revival show, and fourth of all there’s even a new poem.

The really exciting news though, is that we are in the initial stages of pre-production for our first, full-band, full-production, all the bells and whizzers album! I can’t say too much yet, but we’re rehearsing constantly, plotting and scheming….can’t wait! Also, my next national tour itinerary is underway, looks like Sept/October, I’ll be doing it all over again! (start emailing ASAP about house concerts as we’ll need to schedule them in. They were such a success on the last tour, hopefully we can do more!)

Alright, as per always, I’ve probably overloaded you with information; I can rarely help myself… Recap: NXNE this Thursday night, Fringe show next 2 weeks, online goodies, new album and tour!

‘nuff said, thanks for your continued support, take care, PEter

Hello y'all! (I just got back from Texas...my sister got married!)

Happy to report that all is well and good in 'Peter Katz Land'.  Had a great show in Mississauga the other night, something clicked about halfway through the set... felt really good about it....

Had an amazing time in Texas at my sister's wedding and the song I wrote for her went really well (I think I'm going to put it on the new album....which, by the way, we start recording very soon!!!)  We're gearing up now for our NXNE set at the Drake Hotel on Thursday June 8th at midnight (sharp) which we are SUPER excited about.  It's the Chart Magazine showcase and the other acts are really solid (including the band ZOX from the US who I've heard nothing but amazing things about).  Wristbands and such are available now at www.nxne.com The whole festival is going to be incredible with artists like Hawksley Workman, Amy Millan, Television, C'MON, David Celia, Valery Gore, Harmony Trowbridge and many more all included on one inexpensive wristband.  Hope you can make it out!

My little campaign from the Montreal show where I asked you to cc me on emails that you send to friends telling them about one of our shows (because word of mouth is all we've got!) went so well that I'm going to extend the offer.  Anybody who cc's me on an email telling their friends about us or one of our shows will get a hidden link to all kinds of goodness like exclusive recordings, videos and poetry.  Thanks to all of you who have already done so!

That's all for now, I'm off to band practice.  Take care and thanks as always for your support, PEter

Hello Mile-Runners!
There has been a little situation out of our control and we have been moved from the Main Hall to the Green Room (5386 St.Laurent) The Green room is literally right next door to the Main Hall. It's also an amazing venue that has hosted the likes of Luke Doucet and The Rheostatics so we're really looking forward to it.
Hope you'll join us tomorrow night!

Take care, PEter

n.b. THANK YOU for your overwhelming responses to my word-of-mouth email requests. As I said, the Green Room is right next to the Main Hall and signs will be posted, so if you've sent your Montreal friends to the Main Hall, they'll still find us! Thanks again for your heart-melting support...

The show again is THIS thursday night, 9pm, Main Hall, Montreal, (5390 St Laurent) with the absolutely gripping Valery Gore (check her out at www.valerygore.com  and watch the video for 'Dancing'... SOOOO good!)

I realize that many of you don't live in Montreal (and if you don't, I'm very pleased to say that I WILL be coming to your neighborhood soon... 2nd national tour plans are underway!!) but if you know someone in Montreal and you think they might enjoy the show, please let them know about it because word of mouth is pretty much all we've got! As a little incentive, if you 'cc' me on the e-mail (peter@peterkatz.com ) I'll send you a hidden link to exclusive music and video footage as thanks!

Hope all is well with you, time for bed for me...

Hello Mile-Runners!

Well...somehow, I (we) have arrived at the end of one serious
stretch of insanity: the tour is over! We sure went out with a
bang; the show at Revival was one of the greatest nights for me
and for everyone in the band: thank you so much for being a
part of it (both in person and in spirit). Our max count at the
door was 340 people! Hopefully you all had as great of a time
as we did.

To make things even sweeter, I was treated to an 'end of tour'
surprise party on Saturday night by my band and management (funny story: some people who heard about the party but couldn't make it, thought it was all for my birthday (which it wasn't) so they baked me a cake for the following night! ---I managed to get a whole birthday weekend with no actual birthday!! Kind of nice because my actual birthday is the day after Christmas and I never really get to celebrate with friends.) All this to say, I've been feeling like a pretty lucky man these past few days and I have all of you to thank for that.

Now that I've had nearly 24 hours off, time to start thinking about what's next!

Well, I have a great Montreal show (this Friday, April 14th opening for Amanda Mabro at Main Hall) but not too much live playing for the next little while apart from that. Most of our focus will be on pre-production for the next album! We're looking around at different producers, trying to find some funding, distribution, etc. and basically just trying to do everything in our power to finally put out our official 'debut full-length release'(seems funny seeing as I've already put out 2 albums). I've been writing a ton, with much more to come out and the thought of actually doing a fully produced album is only fueling the fire. I'll also be spending some time planning the  next tour, eagerly awaiting a return to all the great cities I visited on this last one ---and especially those I haven't yet! In the meantime, we're going to be running some pretty cool contests online, releasing some recordings online.very exciting.(can't quite let the cat out of the bag yet.) and adding even more content to the website for your perusal (more photos, more videos, more poetry, more tracks, messageboard re- vamp, etc. etc.).

To kick things off, I want to announce the official launch of 'Peter Katz Online Tutorials'! Basically, I get a lot of requests for tabs and 'what chord is that?' questions and I'm not the greatest 'tabber' in the world so I thought I'd do something a little different. The result: I've created a series of videos (5 so far) where I awkwardly speak into the camera and show you how I play each song. I'll be adding more and more as time goes (and as your requests come in), and there's a section on the messageboard ('chords and tabs') where you can help me out by posting your own tabs, asking questions, requesting songs to be videotaped, responding to other people's questions, etc. The tutorials are located in the 'media' section of the website so go check it out and let me know what you think!

Apart from that, time to catch up on all those emails that I've been ignoring for the past 3 months, maybe clean my office (certainly my car, it's a bio-hazard right now.), visit my family, do some laundry, make rent, ...(yikes).

I need to say one final and huge THANK YOU to all of you who gave me a place to stay along the road, fed me, came out to the shows, sang along, bought cd's and t-shirts, put on shows in your living rooms, etc. etc. The only reason this whole thing was possible was because of your generosity and support, I owe you BIG time! I also need to put in an extra-special thanks to Brent Bain and WordWide Management for pulling this whole thing off on the other end ---he is one hard-working guy! Finally, to Carrie Catherine:
my tour-mate, for simply putting up with me and 'bringing the show' every night.

Well.Spring has arrived, I feel encouraged, rejuvenated and ready for more! See you soon (Montreal very soon!).

MUCH love, Peter

n.b. For those of you who missed the webcast but would still like to see it (before I put it up on the site, eventually) I just found out that it's on a perpetual loop at www.cast2net.com . Just give it a few seconds to load, it's there (though it's on a loop so you might have to wait to catch your section of choice ---Rob Szabo's set is definitely worth watching)

Hey Folks!

Played 'till my fingers bled at the Blacksheep, (click image for close-up of my blood.... Pete Townshend would be so proud...)

What a great night we had as a trio at the Blacksheep (Scottie on Bass and Mandolin, Ben on Keys)... great way to end the tour with Carrie, now just one show left! ---and it's going to be a big one!!! Rehearsals are going well, new drummer Greg is working hard learning all the old tunes (and the NEW tunes), tickets are selling fast, and the bonus CD (that you get when you buy your ticket in advance) is coming together really nicely.  It's got live tracks from NYE and from the CD release, can't wait for you to hear it!

All in all, much is rolling on this end, can't wait to hit the stage next week at Revival (just to clarify, people keep saying 'Rivoli', but it's at REVIVAL this time... 783 College West (at Shaw)

Greetings again from the Canadian road! (snow-bound in Thunder Bay right now…highway is closed…O Canada)

First things first, the tour blog has been updated many times since my last email with tons of photos & stories so if you’d like the whole scoop complete with over 100 photos,  just click here

In tour-related news, I’m very excited to announce a few things:

As you probably know from my mailings and tour blogs, this 2-month tour will be culminating in a BIG full-band, special guests-extravaganza at Revival (783 College St W) in Toronto on FRIDAY April 7th at 9 pm.  I can tell you already: this will be our biggest show yet!  I already have a few special guests confirmed (including violinist Drew Jurecka of Jeff Healey’s band, guitarist Oliver Johnson (Ivana Santilli, Esthero), drummer Greg Wilkinson (Shawn Hewitt) as well as my stellar band (Scott Montgomery on Bass, Ben Harrison on keys, Sheena Turcotte on backup vocals) …with a few more surprises to be added.  I also have 2 AMAZING opening acts, Mike Evin (recently released an incredible album, produced by Jim Creegan of the Barenaked Ladies and is currently working on his follow-up with Don Kerr (Ron Sexsmith, Peter Elkas)) and Disques 21/SRI Canada recording artist Amanda Mabro and the Cabaret Band.  Needless to say, I’m very VERY excited about the line-up.

Tickets are on-sale now!  Please visit ticketweb  $10 advance, 15 at the door.

Just to add to the excitement of the evening, there are a whole bunch of fun promo contests/events going on surrounding this concert:

1. ANYONE who buys their ticket(s) in advance (either online through ticketweb or in person from any band member/street team rep) will automatically receive a FREE, limited-edition disc at the door with unreleased recorded tracks as well as a few select LIVE recordings from our CD release and NYE show!  Not only do you save $5 off the door ticket price, you ALSO get a free CD!  Tickets are on-sale now!

2.  I will be doing an exclusive webcast in Toronto with friend/hero Rob Szabo on April 5th as a bit of a pre-show to the 7th,.  This will be broadcast online worldwide at http://www.cast2net.com and will feature me doing a 30-minute intimate solo set at 7:30 pm, followed by the screening of Rob Szabo’s DVD and a live performance by him.  This is a very exciting opportunity for me AND …I am allowed to bring 10 audience members! …so, I thought I’d run a little trivia contest! As an added bonus, if you win a pair of tickets to come to this live broadcast, I will give you a FREE PAIR OF TICKETS TO THE APRIL 7th REVIVAL SHOW!

All you have to do is answer this little question:

“In which city on our tour were Carrie and I met with a room of rowdy English lads?”

Hint: check the tour blog for the answer...

So there you have it folks, 2 very exciting promo opportunities! The first 5 people to reply (email shapeofaboy@rogers.com) get 2 tickets each to be audience members at the exclusive webcast on the 5th  and 2 free tickets to the April 7th Revival show!  ALL advance ticket buyers for the April 7th show get the free bonus disc! – and if you’re not in Toronto to participate in the contests, well you can still tune in to the webcast from wherever you may be in the world and then catch highlights, photos and such from the Revival show on the website soon after the fact.

Apart from that, the tour is going really well, just had a few great shows in a row in Calgary, Saskatoon, Winnipeg…We’re unfortunately snowbound in Thunder Bay and all the roads are closed BUT, we’ve definitely breached the ‘hump’ and are on our way home!  We’ve added a few dates, including London on March 16 and Hamilton March 21 so please check the shows section for details.

Last but not least, we’ve gotten some great reviews, I just posted one of them in the ‘press’ section of the website from SEE magazine.

That’s all folks, thank you so much for your unbelievable support this whole tour, see you soon! Take care, Peter

Happy New Year again… (sheepishly late)

Truth be told, I didn’t get a real break leading up to the New Years Eve show so I finally took one right after (it had been a long time coming, and was MUCH needed). So I’m back, refreshed (I think) and rarin’ to go.

Before I go any further, I must say this: THANK YOU for making 2005 such a wonderful year. I rarely ever look back, doesn’t seem to be much point, but if I dare take a little glance back, a LOT has happened this year and I have much to be grateful for. I (we) played over 80 shows in 3 different countries (including 2 weeks in Mexico!), gained management with Brent Bain of WordWide Management, agency representation by Paul Gourlie of the Agency Group, recorded a new disc ‘Split’ , released it with the full-band in 4 major cities and independently sold over 850 copies since September, played at great
