My brand new studio album "Still Mind Still" hits retail stores TODAY in The Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg! Digital release in Europe on itunes will be Jan 17th. European tour dates all over Germany, Switzerland, Italy, the UK and the Netherlands start on Thursday!
For all of you in other countries, release and tour plans are underway so please stay tuned! Canadian release date is April 24th with a tour to follow.

My new Live CD/DVD - Peter Katz and Friends: Live at the Music Gallery is out on iTunes WORLDWIDE TODAY, right now, immediately! (right HERE)
Actually, only the audio is available on itunes, if you would like the CD/DVD combo then that can be ordered right HERE or at any of my upcoming CD/DVD release tour shows.
I recorded this show back in May of 2010 not really knowing what I was going to do with it, but as I started listening back to it, I realized that for many of the songs, these live versions were THE versions I had always wanted people to hear. They feel like the 'real' incarnation of many of them, funny how things work... You can decide for yourself of course by visiting this special page where you can DOWNLOAD2 FREE songs from the CD! Then, if you like what you hear, you can either order the CD/DVD or get the audio of the whole concert immediately on itunes. There's also a video player at the free download page where you can get a sneak peak of the DVD content! For those of you short on time, there's also this trailer that says it all in 2 minutes:
In other news, I have been working away all summer on my next studio album and it is coming along incredibly well. I’m playing a big show at the Music Gallery in Toronto on September 23rd as a CD/DVD release for my new live album called: ‘Peter Katz and Friends: Live at the Music Gallery’ .
I’m looking for 3 acoustic solo/duo acts to play as part of a song-circle before my set. If you are interested in filling one of the 3 spots, then please send a youtube or vimeo link (no longer than 5 minutes) of you playing one of your original songs to my manager Sean Russell (srussell@tangentsnorth.com) by August 29th. The results will be announced on September 1st.
Video Criteria:
- No longer than 5 minutes
- Please only send youtube or vimeo links, no large files
- Music MUST be original, no covers please
- Solo or duo acts only this time
What you’ll get:
- A opening spot on September 23rd
- Place to sell CD’s, T-shirts, mailing list, etc.

The time has come for me to make a new studio album! I have been writing like a madman and I have so many new songs I can't wait to share with you.
As with my last record, I'm inviting you to be a key part of the process through my Perk Campaign.
At the core of this campaign is a simple request:

+ I will come play a house concert for you and all your friends at your house or venue of choice(when I'm on tour in the area, which is pretty much always)

+ I will write a song, just for you or your loved ones and send you a proper recording of it.

All of the above but you'll get a box of CD’s (35) and VIP guest-list for life. + I will arrange a plane/train ticket, hotel and car for you to come to Toronto and join me during the recording process where I'll find a way of getting you on the record!

+ I will fly you to Toronto and set you up for 3 nights at a super nice hotel.I'll take you out to concerts, cook you dinners, perform private concerts whenever you'd like and show you a great time in this amazing city. (If you live in Toronto, I can take you somewhere else)

+ While you're in town hanging out with me, recording on my record and doing all the other fun things listed in the above categories,I will make arrangements with world-class musicians, producers and recording studiosto fully produce a song of yours. We can write it together, it can be one I write for you, or one you wrote yourself.Whatever it is, I will take care of everything including your flight and travel expenses and you'll end up with an incredible recording and experience at the end of it.
And finally, the return of the ever-popular 'Choose your own Perkventure' For $???

Deep in Pre-Production Land...
Hi folks,
I survived (and had the most amazing trip in the Grand Canyon) and am now deep in pre-production-land for the next album. I'll have plenty of news and I'll be launching my perk campaign (with crazy perks you won't believe) coming up really soon. Time to Breathe
Hi folks!
After 4 months of non-stop touring through multiple countries and continents, I am finally home and feeling incredibly grateful for all the shows I just got to play and all the great people I got to connect with. There are so many new people who have been coming out the shows, it's really encouraging to see.
In about 16 hrs, I'm getting on a plane and heading to the Grand Canyon for a 2 1/2 week hiking trip in the backcountry. I couldn't be more excited to turn off for a bit and process all that's happened. Going on extended hikes has always been my 'reset' button, and I think it's long overdue for a push.
As soon as I get back (literally the next day) I go into pre-production for my next record and a new cycle begins. As with my last record, I'll be running my 'perk' campaign, but I won't get into that just yet. More than anything, I just wanted to say thanks for helping me through the past 4 months, and let you know that there's a new record on the way (thinking late winter/early spring) as well as a live album/DVD set for release this fall. As always, there will be a steady stream of shows, and as always, I look to you for suggestions on new places to play, even possibly partnering up to put on a show in your area, city, home, camp, etc... Some of my favourite shows on this past tour were the ones in 'bring your own venues'.
I'll leave it there for now as I have to get packing, but you'll be hearing from me again in a few weeks with details on how you can be involved in the process of making the next record! The Ernestown Secondary School Choir is doing 2 PK Tunes!
Hi Folks,
I was recently invited to do a workshop/show at The Ernestown Secondary School in Odessa Ontario. I had a wonderful afternoon playing for about 100 students, answering questions, telling stories, it was really nice. After school though, I was invited to their choir practice to join them on my songs 'First of the Last to Know' and 'Til You Come Home' which they're doing as part of their repertoire! Blew my mind, I was very touched. One of the teachers filmed while we performed 'First of the Last to Know' together and I had to share it with you. Big thanks to Mr. (Andy) Rush and the amazing Ernestown Secondary School Choir!!

Busy writing before Netherlands tour, a few fun photos from mini-tour with Emma-Lee!
Hi Folks,
I've been in a frenzy of writing with some rare time on my hands, trying to get a large mountain of songs together for my next album.
Thought I would pause for a moment to post a couple of fun pics that were sent to me by Cube Gallery owner Don Monet from our (sold-out!) show there last week. The Cube is an inspiring art gallery with an incredible collection of paintings as well as all kinds of unusual pieces placed throughout the rooms. The top photo here is from my set; Don did some quick photoshop work to it at the end of the evening, thought it turned out pretty well.
After our show, Emma-Lee and I did an acoustic performance of 'Love Hurts' in the lobby. It was a really fun moment and thankfully Don got a shot of it too.
No video has turned up online yet, but, we did film a version of it when we were learning it in the car on our way to Ottawa for the show. You can watch that HERE
Alrighty, back to the writing pad (well... microsoft word mostly, I just wanted to seem super authentic).
Next stop: THE NETHERLANDS! So darn excited to go back there. In the meantime, write write write.

Music Gallery Pics, Happy Holidays!

Just received some great pics from the Music Gallery show last week, big thanks to Hamish Grant for sending these!
Also big thanks to all of you for coming out and selling it out in ADVANCE! (my first time doing that in Toronto, I was a happy man)
The opening set of the evening was a songwriters circle by 8 INCREDIBLE singer-songwriters (Emma-Lee, Layah Jane, Rob Szabo, Scott Cooper, Jadea Kelly, Jaron Freeman-Fox, Lesley Pike and Jon Bryant). They then joined me throughout my set adding their magic, it was an incredibly special evening, hopefully the pics tell some of the story.
I'm about to turn off for 10 days, but please check back soon as 2011 is going to be even busier, lots to look forward to! In the meantime, I have a date with a book and the couch... ahhh....

The album features a veritable pantheon of Canadian legends including Neil Young, Bruce Cockburn, Blue Rodeo (to name but a few), and by some great miracle, I'm on there too.
We recorded this over 3 years ago with my old band 'The Curious' and I'm so bloody excited that it's finally being released.

So Much Goodness: Fall Update!

So first bit of very exciting news is that I recently found out that I’ve been nominated as Emerging Artist of the Year at the Canadian Folk Music Awards! I was stunned at this news, still can’t believe it. Last year’s winners were none others than the incredible Good Lovelies! (also nominated this year in the same category, my friend and awesome songstress Jadea Kelly)
Starting today, I’m touring like a fool. Next up, I’m very pleased to report that I have started working with a new manager named Sean Russell. Sean has had experience working with many great acts like The Trews, Two Hours Traffic, Peter Elkas, Emma-Lee and more. He’s an incredibly hardworking man and a kind soul, I’m delighted to have him on-board. Hopefully I can have more time to focus on music, and start working on the follow-up to ‘First of the Last to Know’, stay tuned…

Canadian Folk Music Awards Nomination!!

I am beyond delighted to report that I've just been nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award in the 'Best New/Emerging Artist" category
I'm a big fan of many of the nominees so it means a great deal to me to be in such company.
Now I have to figure out a way to get to the gala, what will I wear?! Do they make plaid tuxedos?

War Child Today!

I'm delighted to be a part of 'Busking for Change' which is a wonderful event put on by War Child. There will be all kinds of incredible musicians playing all over the city today raising money and awareness for this incredibly important cause.

Oil Spill Compilation
Hi Folks,
I'm very proud to be involved with a compilation CD that's raising funds and awareness for the Oil Spill clean-up effort.
Other artists include: Dragonette, Michou, Lindi Ortega, Sandman Viper Command and The Junction to name a few.
All funds raised go to support Oceana and their incredibly important work. Please check it out.

A Video Says a Thousand Words...
Hi Folks,
Last night... where to begin. Don't really know what to say other than it went even better than I could have possibly imagined (and believe me, I imagined it a hell of a lot!). Thank you for your incredible support and response, thank you to The Swell Season for the opportunity. Highlight of the night for me was when Glen called me out during their encore and the whole band backed me up (without having heard the song) on 'Til You Come Home. If the video had a close-up, you would see my smile touching on the back of my head.
